Recently at Snoqualmie Builders, we had an interesting project involving a client who was preparing to sell his home. The inspection report showed some required repairs, one of them being to caulk exposed nail fasteners on plumbing vent flashing and other roof penetrations. We made sure to clean each location before applying the appropriate amount of caulk. The report also highlighted failing caulk on the kitchen backsplash, but upon close examination, it revealed to be cracking grout covered by a layer of silicone. Knowing that new silicone wouldn’t stick to the old, we removed all grout and old silicone before applying fresh, white silicone caulk.
